Chicago: places to go and things to do

Chicago outings can connect Loop art and architecture with the river, or shift north to Lincoln Park and the lakefront. Leave room for wind, weather, and the distance between neighborhoods instead of making every landmark part of one walk.

Getting around Chicago

Use CTA rail and buses for neighborhood changes. Millennium Park, the Art Institute, and the Cultural Center form a central cluster; Lincoln Park Zoo and The 606 require separate journeys. Choose a section of the Lakefront Trail instead of treating the full trail as a short attraction.

Plan for the weather

Lakefront wind matters even on a mild day. Summer heat and storms can interrupt outdoor plans; winter calls for shorter walks and a museum backup. Check park access and any weather-related closures, and do not plan a long exposed waterfront leg immediately before a timed booking.
