Los Angeles: places to go and things to do

Los Angeles is best planned in clusters: Downtown art, Griffith Park views, or the Santa Monica and Venice coast. Free museum admission can still involve paid parking, and a distant garden visit deserves a separate travel window.

Getting around Los Angeles

Choose the side of Los Angeles you want to explore before selecting venues. Metro rail and buses serve some clusters, but Griffith Observatory and the Getty need a final local connection. Check the full door-to-door journey and traffic before combining Downtown, the coast, or San Marino.

Plan for the weather

Carry sun protection and water for exposed coastal walks and Griffith Park. Heat, smoke, wind, or trail restrictions can affect outdoor plans, so check official notices. Coastal evenings may be cooler than Downtown; a light layer helps if a daytime outing extends toward sunset.
