Sydney: places to go and things to do

Sydney connects harbour-side walks with museums, historic streets, beaches, and a zoo across the water. Public views can be free while tours, performances, ferry journeys, and wildlife admission are paid. Choose a harbour day or coastal day rather than every setting at once.

Getting around Sydney

Circular Quay is a useful starting point for a harbour cluster and ferry connections. The Rocks, Opera House exterior, and Royal Botanic Garden can be linked on foot with breaks. Bondi requires a separate eastern-suburbs journey, and Taronga Zoo needs a ferry or road connection and a return plan.

Plan for the weather

Carry sun protection and a layer for harbour wind, and check beach conditions before a coastal visit. Public beach access is different from safe swimming conditions. Rain favors a museum visit; hot weather favors a shorter garden route with shade and water rather than a full-day exposed waterfront circuit.
